This is one of my favourite compositions as it contains a lot of symbolism harking back to the heyday of Cardiff docks. In the foreground is the capstan which was used to tighten the ropes on ships. To the left is a sculpture of a miner sitting against a coal cart. This relates to Cardiff docks vast export of coal and iron from the 1800's to the 1960's, Cardiff as a result was catapulted from being a small town to the Capital City of Wales. In the background is the Lightship 2000, the light ship helped provide safe passage around much of the UK waters before being moored up in the dock. The Lightship 2000 is now a Christian worship centre with a chapel and a cafe with lots of other spaces to explore including an amazing view from the light tower.
